A BURGLAR who broke into a garden shed while serving a suspended sentence has been jailed for 16 weeks.
Gerald Bertram Thomas, 45, was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment at Cardiff Magistrates Court on Friday, January 16, after pleading guilty to trespassing with the intent to steal and to resisting arrest.
Thomas, of Broad Street, Barry, was caught having broken into a garden shed at Dorothy Close, Barry and then resisted Police Constable, Tarling when being placed under arrest.
The court heard how, at the time of the offence, Thomas was serving a suspended sentence in the community for stealing batteries valued at £10 from Boots on Holton Road.
The 16 week prison sentence was handed down due to the offence being aggravated by Thomas' record of previous offending and because the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.
He was also ordered to pay an £80 surcharge.
