GLAMORGAN Archives have become the first local authority archive service in Wales to be awarded Archive Service Accreditation.

Accredited Archive Services ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of their archive heritage.

Accreditation is the new UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of archive service delivery.

Achieving the status shows that the archives have met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

Susan Edwards, Glamorgan Archivist, said: “I am very pleased to have this national recognition of the consistently high standards achieved by my staff. Working with a range of partners helps us to deliver quality services to the six local authorities we serve which I hope will serve as an attainable model to other archive services”.

The Archive Service Accreditation assessors considered the application by Glamorgan Archives to be outstanding.

The Glamorgan Archives collects, preserves and makes available to the public documents from the area dating from the 12th century to the present day.
