A FITNESS dance craze pioneer got a star-studded surprise when she discovered she was going to appear on national TV having met a pop star.

Former Bryn Hafren pupil Helen Tite, who was one of the first to launch Zumba in the UK, will appear on ITV’s Surprise Surprise today, on November 26 after former X-Factor singer Olly Murs sat by her in a cafe.

Entrepreneur, Helen Tite, formerly McTavish, runs The Core Fitness and Wellbeing Centre in Falmouth, Cornwall, winning the 2013 United Kingdom National Fitness Awards Gym Team of The Year.

But the mum-of-two devotes time working with patients with long-term conditions, cancer, and heart disease and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.

She was also the Excellence in Business Awards 2014 Winner for Outstanding Commitment to Training for small business.

Core member Ali Hunt conspired with a few Core staff, clients and ITV to create a massive surprise and celebrate the inclusive ethos Helen brings to her classes.

Helen was filmed during the summer, but believed the footage was being used for a programme about the positive effects of physical activity on long term health conditions including cancer, Parkinsons and stroke.

Helen said: “I was completely shocked when I was set up in a fake café and Olly Murs walked in and sat down next to me!

“Within seconds of Olly’s appearance, I was whisked onto the set of Surprise Surprise to meet Holly Willoughby.”

The show features footage and testimonials from people who have benefited from Helen’s exercise rehabilitation classes, including Louise, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer, aged 30 in 2013, and 67-year-old Judith, with Parkinsons, who has improved from walking with sticks at a 45 degree angle to moving and shaking in Zumba classes.

Judith’s story is also being celebrated at the National Fitness Awards in Leicester on Friday, November 28.

The show can be viewed on ITV at 8pm
