TV WEATHERMAN Derek Brockway is forecasting a bright walk for the 50 people who have so far signed up for his Barry-Rhoose charity walk.

Derek, who was born in Barry, has now begun training for his Velindre cancer centre Patagonia trek in November next year, is launching his effort with an eight-mile Barry to Rhoose stroll and there are just a few more places available to kick off the charity fundraising fun.

Derek said he had rehearsed the route and juggled the train timetable to ensure everyone gets to return home.

Walkers just need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship for Velindre, to take part in the Barry to Rhoose leg, on Sunday, November 30.

Derek said: “I promise not to do any singing on the walk. I have never done anything like this before. The fact we have got 50 people is amazing. I am looking forward to it. I don’t know what the weather is going to do. I’m really grateful for the support.”

The walk starts in Barry, follows a route through the old docks along the coast to the most southerly point on mainland Wales, Rhoose Point.

The Walk with the Weatherman event will kick off at the Dock Offices, Ffordd Y Mileniwm, Barry, and move along the coast to Rhoose Point.

The easy walk, featured on BBC Wales’ Weatherman Walking series, is scheduled to stop at Marco’s Cafe and at Porthkerry Park

Entry costs £5 per person with each participant required to raise a minimum of £50 for Velindre.

To enter, visit www.velindrefundraising.com/bookonline or call Velindre Fundraising on 029 2031 6211 for an entry form and sponsor pack.
