A VALE granddad is hoping to thrill bookworms with a mystery they will be unable to forget at his Barry library book-signing this Tuesday, November 25.

Petros Makris, originally from Cyprus but now a Bonvilston resident, has swapped his full-time accountancy professional head for a spare time debut with literature – penning his first book The Apostate – an imaginative and inspiring thriller addressing contemporary issues.

79-year-old Petros’ thriller combines greed, religion, and sex all interwoven with murder and retribution.

He said: “My wife had cancer four to five years ago and I found myself doing nothing. I did some research and I found myself writing and writing.”

The chartered accountant exchanged numbers for words and took two creative writing courses in Cardiff and then in Barry where, he said: “I had a lovely teacher. She was the one who inspired me the most. I work with numbers, but I like to fantasise and this is the result. I hope it’s going to be a success.”

The Apostate is available from Amazon, Waterstones and other retailers, as an eBook, and also on loan from Barry library.

Catch Petros at Barry library, King Square, from 10am to 12pm midday and 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday, November 25.
