HIGH Street traders are promising a warm-glow with a ‘Frozen’-style experience set to wow a Christmas lights switch-on crowd on Friday, November 28.

The hard-working shop owners and staff have set out to make this year’s switch-on ceremony a spectacular wonder and, as well as man of the moment Father Christmas, are promising treat visits from Ella and Anna - Disney’s ‘Frozen’ queen and princess.

Thousands of residents, once again expected to view the lights extravaganza, will get the chance to view one extra special Christmas Light designed as part of a High Street traders design contest.

School pupils Lillie Youd and Mali Davies took the honours with their eye-catching creation.

Chairwoman Wendy Caswell said: “Planning for this event is ongoing throughout the year by collecting ideas on entertainment and on stalls. The paperwork and most of the planning starts in September. One member of the original team is off on long time sick but she is helping from the sidelines. People don’t see all the backstage organising which goes on and the sleepless nights.

“We always have great support from Sarah Jones Vale of Glamorgan Council and Mark Sims Barry Town Council, our local MPs and our High Street traders, family and friends.

“Every year we try and do something different and try to make every year better. We are not giving all the details away come down on the night and see all the Christmas fun.

“We want people to know that we are here we have been told that we are “Barry’s best kept secret” as people stumble on us by mistake. "We have unique shops which you don’t find on our main shopping street.

"We have a few people on stage for the switch on, come down and see. We are not giving out all the surprises.”

The popular street will kick-off hours of Christmas Wonderland joy from 4pm with High Street primary and Ysgol St Baruc’s choirs on top song.

Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Jodi Bird will line up with Barry-based academy Superstars in the Making and Motion Control will take to the stage.

The night will be presented by Liam Tanner and Nathan Petch from KL Parties with stage and sound provided by JPL Sound.

Trade stands will be available along the length of High Street, with some Christmas deals available in all the participating shops.

Face painting, sweets, bouncy castles and much more is in store to delight both young and old.

Barry Choral Choir and Billboard Ensemble will also perform star turns with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna available for photos as they wander up and down the street for a chat.

The TFL Centre will deliver a special surprise at 5.20pm with the lights switch flicked at 6.30pm.

The Motion Control Dance Crew and Tim Reynolds will be finish off your entertainment on the stage, along with the raffle draw at 7.10pm before KL Parties closes the night.
