BARRY artist Glyn Pooley has put forward some ideas on a use for one of Barry’s iconic buildings, after a request for suggestions was made.

The architects, who successfully bid at auction on the 19th century grade II-listed Watchtower, at Cold Knap, in March, want the community to have a say on its future.

The two-storey building has now been winter-proofed to safe-guard its long-term future and now the property, originally bought as a portfolio piece,is open to suggestions for a fully functional use.

Glyn said: “It could be a place to exhibit art and historical information, a hub for information taking place in the community, or an interactive artwork. The Watchtower could actually be an artwork.”

The owners will consider the ideas and debates surrounding them and put into practice those that could be employed in-keeping with its heritage and place in the community.

The owners want thoughts and ideas on what a restored Watchtower would offer to the local area, ideas on what its use would be and what value and benefit it could provide and what need it would be meeting.

The owners plan to give a public presentation before the end of the year to also seek ideas for the project.

What do you think should be an ideal use for the Watchtower?
