BARRY Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit will be closed on Monday, October 20 due to strike action being undertaken by the Society of Radiographers.

The Society of Radiographers are taking strike action in response to the UK Government’s position over NHS pay.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has put in place appropriate contingencies to lessen the impact on its services and for the most part, services will continue as usual. This is particularly the case for emergency, urgent and cancer services.

There will be a limited impact on some routine services and where this is the case the health board will make patients aware of any changes through direct contact.

Patients are being advised that those with routine appointments should continue to attend unless they hear otherwise.

The main impact will be on the ability of the UHB to deliver its minor injuries service at Barry Hospital in the absence of radiological support.

For this reason, Barry Hospital Minor Injuries Unit will be closed on Monday, October 20 only.

This service will resume as normal the following day and patients requiring access to Minor Injuries at Barry will be redirected to the University Hospital of Wales.

Alice Casey, the health board’s Chief Operating Officer said: “We have been working with staff to make sure that services are unaffected by the strike action and we are confident that the contingencies outlined will enable us to continue to operate with minimal disruption to patients.”
