A PHOTOGRAPHER has gone back to his Barry origins to produce his third consecutive calendar with the town in mind.
49-year-old Callum Hamilton has decided to follow the success of his first Barry calendar 2013 with a similar-themed 2015 one after the Vale of Glamorgan Coast calendar 2014 did less well than he had hoped.
The dad-of-two said the main theme, of what could be an ideal Christmas gift, was quite simply Barry, including Barry Island.
Callum, of Canon Street, said: “I have again concentrated primarily on the coast but also Porthkerry and the Knap Gardens.
“I’m always pleased when people look at my photographs of Barry and express some surprise that Barry can look so good. I love the idea that, in however small a way, my photographs may remind locals to not overlook what they have on their doorstep. Perhaps too, somebody who doesn’t live in Barry may see the calendar and think it worth a visit.”
Callum said his favourite image, for the 2015 calendar, was July.
He said: “The clouds and the quality of the light appeal to me and for me it has a sense of space and restfulness.
“Even when I’m not going out with the express purpose of taking photographs I usually have a camera with me so I’ve got many shots of Barry to choose between especially as I’ll use images made more than a year ago. I don’t, however, include things that have completely changed. The works at Whitmore Bay will be done by the time the calendar is hanging on walls but wasn’t ready enough for me to include a photo of so my shots of Whitmore deliberately exclude most of that end of the beach. The main difficulties I’d say are trying to select shots that differ from those I’ve used before whilst still being recognisably Barry. There’s also the matter of selecting shots suitable for the different seasons – I could do with some decent snowfall this year.”
The Barry calendar 2015 is, so far, available from Cwtch Coffee and the Post Office on High Street, the Lake Shop at the Knap, Selleys newsagents on Park Crescent, the Forest Café at Porthkerry and Marco’s cafe at Barry Island.
The calendar is also available on eBay.
