AROUND 30 people campaigning for Knap Lido to be rebuilt marched from its former site to the Civic Offices, in Barry, on Wednesday, September 24.

But the group – who included adults and children – had to wait until the re-arranged full council meeting, on Monday (September 29) – to hear Vale Council Baruc ward councillor Nic Hodges gain answers to three questions put to those in the chamber.

Following the march, lead campaigner Dean Snooks said a request to speak to someone in the council had been met with the response that no-one was available.

Campaign founder and co-ordinator, Barrie Evans, said the group was continuing to collect signatures on its petition and that they hoped to soon talk to Dow Corning about their proposals.

Vale Council leader, Cllr Neil Moore, told the councillors at the full council meeting that there were no plans for a lido at the Knap in Barry.

He said: “Nobody has come forward with any plans for a business venture. This council has to make savings of £32m. We do not have the money.”

He said the council was open to sustainable business solutions and there was no intention to build flats or houses on the Knap Lido site.

Vale Council cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett, said a water park could not occupy the whole of the Nell’s Point, Barry Island site and no-one had come forward with that idea when the site was marketed.

She said no figures were available for the Knap Lido’s profit or loss, during the last five years of operation, but re-iterated that the council would welcome business ideas.
