A TWELVE-year-old from Barry is set to be the star of a television special, airing on BBC One Wales next week.

Gymnastics mad Millie is not just the star of her segment on the Real Families: A Child's View but she also filmed it.

The show gave children transitioning from primary to secondary school a chance to film their summer holidays in a bid to find out what life is like for children in Wales in 2014.

On Monday, October 6 at 10.35 Millie's story will be shown among stories about other children from across Wales.

Millie's segment focuses on the hard work she puts in as she trains for a big gymnastic competition alongside her friend Georgia.

Millie said: "It's about what we do in gymnastics and our friendship together. I'm excited to see it."

The show aims to investigate what has happened to childhood in Wales. Do children still run free by streams, making dens and climbing trees or is it all computers and TV screens these days?

Millie's mum Ally said: "Like Millie, I'm excited to see what's going to come out of it.

"I hope it shows that children don't just sit about in the house. Millie goes to the gymnastics five times a week, she put in a lot of hours, she's not just on the iPad or watching television."

Real Families: A Child's View is on BBC One Wales at 10.35pm on Monday, October 6.
