A CHARITY with three shop branches in the Cardiff has made its first venture outside of the capital and arrived in Barry.

Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales opened its 4th charity shop at 150 Holton Road, greeted by customers waiting outside the door.

One of the charity’s ‘grown-up’ children, Jack Bayley-Loyn, 25, who attended the Bobath centre for specialist therapy when it first opened in 1992, officially opened the shop on Friday, September 26.

Shop manager, Sarah Rhoden’s mum Diane Rhoden, of Confection Perfection in Lisvane, Cardiff, made the cake fit for the store’s Holton Road debut.

Proceeds from the shop go towards helping children in Wales with cerebral palsy.

Bobath head of fundraising and retail, Gail Griffiths, said: “This is our first shop outside of Cardiff and reflects our need to expand our retail operation, which has become a very important income stream for the charity. We treat children from all over Wales and have a number of families who attend the centre from the Vale of Glamorgan.”

Shop manager, Sarah Rhoden, said: “The shop looks fantastic. We’ve been preparing the shop for the last two weeks and we’ve had a lot of interest. The customers have come in and we have taken a lot of money in the first hour and a half.”

Retail manager, Angela Parsons added: “We hope customers will come in and say hello to Sarah. Andrea and the volunteers.”

Bobath needs volunteers to assist on the till, serve customers as well as help prepare stock.

Staff also welcome donations of saleable electrical, furniture and fitness equipment, clothes in any condition, CDs and DVDs, books, and bric-a-brac.

A collection service is available for large items and donations can be taken to 150, Holton Road, from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
