A RUGBY mad youngster has won the chance of a lifetime to lead out his beloved Cardiff Blues against the Glasgow Warriors this weekend.

Ten-year-old Evan Baron, who was selected from around 400 nominees, said he was really excited about being the mascot for his favourite team.

Evan is the son of Barry Bombettes manager Rachel Baron and as well as attending every one of their games he also plays for Barry RFC under

The St Helen's RC Primary School pupil lives and breathes rugby, something that his mum's friends and fellow Bombettes Kim Jones and MIchelle Britton made clear when they put him forward for the competition.

Evan has not only won the chance to lead the team out on Sunday (September 14) but also a family ticket and a replica team kit.

Mum Rachel, of Cross Street, Barry said: "When I told him he was speechless, his face was a picture.

"He works really hard in school and this is something he really deserves.

Evan is particularly excited about meeting his favourite player Adam Jones, who recently signed for the Blues.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Adam Jones and I also get to spend time with the captain," he said.

Also a fan of Adam and the boys is mum Rachel who may be using Evan's plus one to join him on the pitch - if she can fend off other family members, that is.

"One adult is allowed to accompany him," she said. "It's a battle between me and his auntie at the moment, she's a big fan too. It might come down a coin toss," she joked.

"When I see him walking the team out, knowing what I'm like, I'll probably be in tears."
