THE Vale Council has pledged its support towards the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC), which aims to eradicate violence towards women.
Working with partners such as Atal y Fro and the Probation Trust, the council has been able to assist and lead in many successful projects including a One Stop Shop at Cadoxton House and a Sanctuary Referral Scheme.
And, in order to raise further awareness of its work to prevent domestic abuse, the council has applied for the White Ribbon Campaign Award which is for organisations demonstrating their commitment to the aims of the campaign by addressing and altering social norms that lead to violent behaviour, increasing awareness, and providing services aimed at reducing incidents of domestic violence.
Every year in the UK more than one million women suffer domestic abuse and more than 360,000 are sexually assaulted.
Within the Vale, there are 1,874 reports made annually from victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
