STATISTICS showing that unemployment has fallen in the Vale have been welcomed by MP Alun Cairns.

According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics the number of unemployed claimants in the Vale of Glamorgan in April 2014 was 1,867. This represents four percent of local people aged 16 to 24.

The number of claimants in the Vale is 322 lower than in April 2013 and 62 lower than in March 2014.

Commenting on the latest figures, Mr Cairns said: “Once again, it is good to see that the fall in unemployment figures in the Vale continues.

"I am pleased that the long term economic plan is having an impact locally.

“This is a significant reduction in comparison to the same month last year and continues the downward trend. It means people can plan more securely and with optimism.

“I’m keen to make sure that the issues raised with me by small businesses and traders across the Vale are heard in government and that changes can be made to best support our entrepreneurs and small business owners grow their companies."
