A VOLUNTEER fundraising group has relaunched in Barry to raise funds for the Marie Curie hospice, Cardiff and the Vale.

The Barry group was set up in November 2011 and has raised over £10,000 by organising golf days, Christmas fairs and a party in the park. Over the last two years due to various reasons, the group has grown smaller. We have now refreshed the group and all nine new members are looking forward to the year ahead.

The group met at Marco's Café in Barry Island on Thursday, March 27, to celebrate the formal re-launch of the group and Apprentice star, Alex Mills joined them for a photo. Lots of planning has already started with events such as a Blooming Great Tea Party and a BBQ this year, so watch this space for details.

The Barry fundraising group will raise vital funds so Marie Curie Nurses can continue to provide free care to people with terminal illnesses, through supporting Marie Curie’s major fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party, as well as promoting fundraising within the local community and encouraging new supporters to help the charity.

Georgina Burke, Community Fundraiser at The Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale said: “The fundraising group in Barry will make a huge difference locally by helping to raise the vital funds needed to support Marie Curie nurses, who provide free care to people with terminal illnesses at the Marie Curie hospice, Cardiff and the Vale, and in their own homes.
