TWO Vale men are on the last leg of their mission to complete the Virgin Money London Marathon this Sunday.
The Barry-based West Quay Medical Centre business manager, Colin Blackwell is striving to raise funds for Sully-based charity Ty Hafan and make a comeback following the 2011 event in which he was forced to retire at mile 18, later finding he was suffering from a broken leg.
Meanwhile, Vale MP Alun Cairns will aim to once again be the fastest MP on the 26.2 mile course as he makes great strides for Ty Hapus and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Residents turned out in large numbers to support a coffee morning held at Age Concern, in Barry, last week.
Alun said: “It was a great opportunity to introduce new people to the fantastic services offered at the Age Concern shop.
“We held a raffle on the day which raised an excellent sum and I know that many more people have generously donated so far.
“I am now looking forward to the marathon itself and I will be doing my best to get in some extra training over the next few days.”
