THE Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan recently invited the Mayor of Barry to the Town Hall to receive a Borough of Barry visitors' book which had been found in the basement of the Dock Office.

The visitors' book dated back to 1939 when the Urban District Council of Barry was granted the Charter to become a Municipal Borough. The inscription on the inside page reads: "Presented to the Barry Corporation by the First Mayor of Barry, Councillor Dudley Howe JP, November 9, 1939". Also found in the Dock Office was a framed picture consisting of photographs of the civic dignitaries at that time.

Councillor Wilkinson said: "I am pleased to be able to present this book and photographs to the Mayor of Barry so that these items will be stored in their rightful home."

Councillor Curtis responded: "I would like to thank the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan for these treasures. The signatures in the book start in 1939 and finish in 1961 and give a fascinating insight into the history of Barry during those years. I am so pleased they are now in the possession of the Town Council for safekeeping."
