A MEMORIAL honouring Barry and the Vale’s seafarers has been unveiled at Barry Waterfront.
Vale mayor, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson unveiled the anchor which has been installed as a lasting tribute.
Cllr Wilkinson said: “This dock and the men of Barry played a major role in the war and it is wholly fitting there should be a memorial by the sea for us to acknowledge their contribution to their country.”
Prayers and dedication were said by the Reverend Duncan Ballantyne.
Members of the Barry Branch of the Merchant Navy Association, Joe Norton and Peter Rees did the readings and chairman, Jim Greenway laid a wreath.
Jim said: "I would like to thank the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Associated British Ports, Trinity House, and A G Adams & Son for enabling this project to come to fruition.
“A special thanks must go to the local seafarer who donated the anchor.
“I am delighted that we have this fitting memorial on Barry Waterfront."
