Barry boy scoops two Blue Peter badges

A BARRY boy has spoken of his joy after he was rewarded with two Blue Peter badges.

Eight-year-old Max Pruce received the green and purple badges at the end of January after months of applying for them.

Green badges are awarded for sending in letters and pictures that are about the environment, conservation or nature, whilst purple badges are awarded for sending in a review of a Blue Peter episode.

Romilly Primary School pupil Max now has his heart set on completing the set of all the different coloured badges, which also include the colours blue, orange, silver and gold.

“It was a nice surprise when they came through the post,” he said.

“All my friends think they are pretty cool.”

Max was presented with the green badge after writing a poem about the environment.

“It spelt GREEN down the side of it,” he added.

Max, who has been watching Blue Peter since he was six and regularly emails and writes letter to the BBC programme, was also awarded a purple badge after writing a review about the show.

“I wrote about what I liked about the programme and what I thought they could improve,” he said.

“I’m trying to get the blue one next.

“I emailed a photo of the snow last week that I took from my bedroom window, so hopefully I will get one from that.”

The blue Blue Peter badge is awarded to people that have appeared on the show or sent in interesting letters, emails, stories, pictures, poems or good ideas for the programme.

Mum Nicci Pruce said: “I’m really proud of him as it’s something I would have loved myself as a child. It’s really nice that he’s got two now as well.

I was always trying to win a Blue Peter badge myself but it never happened.”

As a Blue Peter badge holder Max is now entitled to free entry to over 200 Blue Peter badge attractions, including Alton Towers, the BBC Television Centre Tour, Blackpool Sea Life Centre, Chessington World of Adventures, Legoland Windsor, Stonehenge and the Tower of London.

Nicci added: “We are taking him up to London on the weekend as a reward and hopefully he will get free entry to some of the places.”
