Barry girl, 6, spotted by ice dance talent scouts

A BARRY schoolgirl has become the youngest ice skater in the UK to currently be part of a regional development pathway team.
Six-year-old Ysgol St Curig Year 1 pupil, Harriett Wells, impressed selectors sufficiently to earn a training squad place on the scheme which aims to develop the country’s top talent.
The youngster, who trains at Cardiff’s Planet Ice and has met Olympic champion and Dancing On Ice judge Robin Cousins first set foot on the ice aged two years and four months and began training properly at the age of three.
Coaches Tracey and Julie Keeble and Yuri and Susanna Bureiko have, so far, guided Harriett’s progress with her already featuring in productions of Peter Pan On Ice, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins and a ‘Tis the Season show.
She has also travelled to Riga, in Latvia, and venues throughout the UK where she competes against children in the ten-plus age category.
Grandmother, Sally said: “When she went on the ice she was a complete natural on it - a born skater. She thoroughly enjoys it. Harriett would also like to be on Dancing On Ice, a Welsh school teacher and ice skating coach.”
