POLICE in the Vale of Glamorgan are investigating a number of lead thefts from properties across the county.

Sometime between 2pm on Thursday, January 3, and 9am on Friday, January 11, a section of roof lead was removed from Atlantic College, St Donats.

In another incident between Wednesday, January 9, and Sunday, January 13, lead flashing was removed from a conservatory at a house on Eagleswell Road on Llantwit Major, and the property was targeted again between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday, January 16.

Llantwit Major Neighbourhood Sergeant Nick Kihlberg said: "While the offences are not being linked, we have experienced several thefts of lead in the Vale in recent weeks.

"We are appealing for information and want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of either property during the times in question."

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Lamerton of Vale and Bridgend police said: "Metal theft is not a victimless crime. As well as from private houses, metal is often stolen from community buildings, which costs tax payers money to replace, and those responsible are often involved in other forms of criminality.

"Metal thieves will literally steal anything in order to sell it on for cash.

"I am sending a clear message to anyone involved in the scrap metal industry that we are taking this extremely seriously and will continue to target those who steal or assist in the disposal of stolen metals."

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Nick Kihlberg at Llantwit Major police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
