Local credit union appeals for skilled volunteers
9:00am Sunday 27th January 2013 in News
CREDIT Unions in Wales are looking to recruit skilled volunteers in Barry.
Credit Unions differ from mainstream banks in that profits are shared among members and kept within the community. As such, they rely heavily on volunteers to help with the day-to-day management and customer service.
The All Wales Credit Union Support Programme (AWCUSP) is looking for volunteers from a range of backgrounds to lend their skills and expertise to the credit union movement, which has more than 63,000 members in Wales.
Bill Hudson, head of AWCUSP, said: "Volunteering provides a great opportunity for people to give back to their local communities, but it can also help to sharpen skills and provide attractive content for CVs.
"While credit unions will benefit from volunteers at all levels, many are specifically looking for people who may have experience in HR, marketing, finance, credit control and auditing to name a few, and who are willing to give up a few hours a week to help run their local credit union.
"Perhaps you are retired and keen to keep your skills up, or maybe you've graduated from university and want the opportunity to make yourself more employable."
