Power cut hits Barry's Holton Road and nearby streets

RESIDENTS and businesses on Holton Road, Merthyr Street and St Mary’s Avenue, including the Barry & District News, were affected by a power cut yesterday (Wednesday).

Western Power confirmed that 84 customers were hit by the power outage - which was caused by a cable fault - some from 11.48am and others from early afternoon.

Four engineers attended an electrical substation on Llantwit Street, near Lloyds TSB, where one man saw ‘sparks bursting out’ shortly before the outage.

Chris Simpson, who works at Cafe 150, said: "As I walked past it sparked. It was like a firework display in the middle of January!"

The power was restored shortly after 3.30pm.

A Western Power spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
