A BARRY teenager is hoping his world record speed attempt for giant Sub scoffing will raise a charity some 'dough' - despite his epic eating fail.

Subway fan 19-year-old Anthony Gent, of Holton Road, last week set out to devour a specially created 6ft (1.8m) Chicken and Bacon Ranch, with Honey Mustard sauce on Italian bread, sandwich in under 3 hours 15 minutes for Action For Children, but could only get half the way through.

The bar worker's favourite submarine sandwich and filling would have seen him consume more than 8100 calories - on a Giant Sub designed to be eaten by 20 to 25 people - but he now still hopes his attempt will raise more than £100 for the charitable cause.

Anthony, ahead of his challenge, said: "I think Action For Children is a good cause and I think the sub is a work of art.

"It's my favourite sub.

"I ate a three foot long sub, but that's nothing on what I'm attempting to do."

Folowing his failed bid, Anthony said: "It's been the most enduring thing I've done in my life

"I have drunk so much energy drink acid because it helps dissolve it and my jaw is hurting so much."

Holton Road Subway manager Simon Locke said staff had taken four hours to prepare the sub - which Anthony had paid a discount price of £78 for - and that it was first for the store.

He added: "It's a gutsy effort."
