CHIPS ON THE TABLE: Chip shop owner Curtis Shier and carnival organiser want Barry to experience a tasty event next summer.
A BARRY fish and chip shop owner is hoping his tasty tucker will prove Carnival time for customers next week.
Curtis Shier, owner of the Gourmet Fish and chip shop, on Barry Road, Cadoxton is pledging each £2.50 cost of a portion of fish and chips to the Barry Carnival fund.
Barry resident Dean Snooks, and his newly formed committee, wants to revive the float-based procession in the town and instill the feel-good factor brought about during the Olympics.
Curtis said he had decided to raise funds to help get the carnival up and running after taking part in many as a child with Crossland Street Motors and St Johns.
He added: "I remember watching the zoo float when I was a kid.
"Dean is doing a fantastic job getting it all going and I'd like to show my support and put some pride back into Barry."
Dean, 45, added: "After the Olympics we are trying to bring the feel-good factor and give the town back its pride."
Organisers have so far had pledges of 20 floats, wagons and drivers from S & K Haulage, Barry Dock, support from the Barry Memorial Hall and fire service, and they hope the Round Table will back a Carnival Queen contest.
They hope to stage the event on August 25 next year and are urging any businesses or individuals, who would like to get involved, to make contact.
Customers can boost the carnival fund's coffers from 12 midday to 2pm and 5pm to 10pm, on Thursday, November 1.
