BARRY Comprehensive School pupils finished the academic year with a tidy up of their local area with a two hour litter-pick every morning.
The tidy-up, as part of the annual Welsh Baccalaureate Curriculum Week, saw pupils visit different parts of the town to collect litter which had been carelessly dumped. As well as removing the rubbish, the pupils also worked to raise awareness of littering – an issue which is widely recognised in Barry.
Joining the pupils in the cleansing of the area, were the Vale of Glamorgan Council Waste Removal workers, as well as local residents.
Dyfan Councillor, Leighton Rowlands, who joined the pupils for the litter-pick said: "It was fantastic to see the pupils join with some of the most active residents in our community to tidy up our beloved Barry.
"Speaking to pupils during the litter-pick, I was deeply impressed by the care and concern they showed for their hometown and their determination to further improve its condition."
Resident Ada Flynn added: "It was heart-warming to see young people with such pride in their local area.
"They were a credit to their school."
