SULLY Painting Group held their annual competition on Tuesday, April 4, using the theme of Wales for this year’s entries.

There was a very high standard of work from the members, which made the judge’s task very difficult.

There were four categories of entries e.g. watercolour, oil and acrylic, mixed media and pastel.

Professional artist Vaughan Cummings was invited to judge the entries and give feedback on each painting.

This year’s winners included Robert Williams, who won the oil and acrylic section and then was voted overall winner by members of the group for his atmospheric picture featuring a chamber tomb in Pembrokeshire.

The watercolour section was won by Sara Thomas for her painting of Rhydycar Cottages at St Fagans. The mixed media was won by Pam Hildrup for her painting of cottages in Abergavenny and the pastel competition was won by Hilary Tasker for her picture of a Welsh Corgi dog.

Robert was awarded the George Payne Award (former president) for the best oil/acrylic picture presented by George Payne’s daughter and the Three Kens Award for the picture voted the best by the members which was presented by Brenda Young the widow of Ken Young our former chairman.
