OVER the past few weeks, Barry Comprehensive School’s AS and GCSE Geology groups have completed their fieldwork trips in order to collect data for their coursework investigations.
The Year 12 (AS) students spent two days studying the geology of the Ystradfellte valley in the Brecon Beacons.
They visited Porth yr Ogof caves, Clungwyn and Scwd yr Eira waterfalls whilst investigating the variety of past environments in the area.
The Year 11 students travelled to Pembrokeshire and studied the varied geology exposed along the coast. This included ancient lava flows at Marloes Sands and old mine workings at Broadhaven and Solva.
Both visits were very successful as the students were able to collect a range of observations and data in their notebooks. The worst of the weather was just about avoided, although rain, wind, sun, snow and ice were all seen at some point.
Mr Prickett would like to thank all of the pupils who took part in the trips for their exemplary behaviour and for representing the school so well.
