NEWLY appointed mayor of Barry, Cllr Emma Pritchard, got her year in office off to a flying start when she held her first Charity Coffee Morning at Ty Hapus on Monday, May 18.

Ty Hapus is a unique and specialist day time service for people with early onset Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, focusing on those under 65 years diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.

Situated in a refurbished Edwardian Doctor’s Surgery in Barry, Ty Hapus consists of a Well Being room with a small but beautiful hairdressing lounge with a large TV, a large dining room and the Moon Dance café.

The Moon Dance café offers a calm, safe and comfortable environment for those with dementia and their families to sit and relax with a cup of tea or coffee. Also, in the café you will find daily newspapers, magazines and board games.

The coffee morning was well attended with a cornucopia of cakes, gateaus galore and lots of raffle prizes, the successful event raised £161.57 for this worthwhile charity. Apart from hosting the event Cllr Pritchard made time to meet and chat to some of the regulars who had been visited that morning by Andi Griffiths who regularly attends to read and share stories.

Cllr Pritchard wishes to thank all those friends and family who made delicious cakes especially for the event and all those who attended and gave generous support to Ty Hapus.

Cllr Pritchard said, “I would like to pay tribute to the many volunteers who travel from inside and outside of Barry to run Ty Hapus and provide such an important service to our residents”.

Ty Hapus is one of the mayor’s chosen charities during her year in office, the other being Motor Neurone Disease Association Cardiff and the Vale.

The mayor’s next charity Coffee Morning will take place on June 22 at T? Hapus and commences at 10am. All welcome.
