YOUNGSTERS at a Barry primary school have boosted the Vale Foodbank’s supplies after parents using tins as part of a fitness workout.

Gladstone primary pupils gave goods in style partly thanks to the efforts of the Gladstone Parents FitM8 Fitness class who have brought three tins of food to their training sessions to use as weights twice a week.

FitM8 owner, Carlmichael Reardon-James said: It was part of the FitM8 Fitness Class '3 tin challenge', which we're challenging our classes with at Gladstone and schools throughout Barry, the YMCA Hub and Barry Tennis Club.

“The parents of children at Gladstone school have really taken the challenge on board, getting fitter with regular training sessions with Michelle and I."

Mum-of-six Michelle, who started by training with Carlmichael, has lost half her body weight.

She said: “It has been an absolute pleasure training the mums at Gladstone school and they have worked really hard during our sessions doing the "3 tin challenge". Fitness combined with fun has been the order of the day and already the ladies are seeing visible results. I have a small group of ladies currently and welcome anyone with a child at Gladstone school to join us."

Gladstone mum, Lyndsey, who regularly trains with Michelle and Carlmichael at the Gladstone FitM8 Fitness Class, said: "I was very nervous about joining the FitM8 Fitness class, but haven't looked back since starting. It’s fitness with a giggle mixed in. Most importantly there's no judgement. It’s only been a few weeks but I have already noticed a difference in my fitness.

Lyndsey, whose son is at Gladstone, said: “I am really enjoying our FitM8 sessions with Michelle and Carlmichael. It is a fun, relaxed environment with plenty of encouragement from the FitM8 trainers.”

Mum-of-two and supermarket worker, Emma said: "At first I didn't know what to expect when the classes started. I hadn't worked out in a very long time so had all sorts of thoughts and fears running through my mind. Personally I have found both Michelle and Carlmichael very welcoming. With each session my confidence and ability has grown. The 3 tin challenge has been lots of fun. Working out in a non judgemental environment is great and training with the FitM8 team is fun and surprising because you never know what you can do until you do it."
