STUDENTS at Cardiff and Vale College, including Bethanne Attley who studies at CAVC’s Barry campus, took part in the national ‘Shwmae Sumae’ day to show Welsh pride.

The day is to encourage everyone to pick up and use the Welsh language.

The college takes part in ‘Shwmae Sumae’ every year as it is proud to be Welsh and the college’s bilingual champions will set up stalls to teach students new phrases, or they can write down their favourite Welsh words to be entered in a prize draw.

Bethanne Attley, aged 18, studies travel and tourism in Barry, said: “It’s good to be able to use some of the Welsh we learned in school and hopefully now at college we can learn some more in the future, too!”

CAVC is committed to providing support and provision in Welsh for learners. This includes Welsh-speaking learning assistants; accepting written work in Welsh with language support available; bilingual notes; courses for non-Welsh speakers at every level and some course modules are available through the medium of Welsh.
