Gavin and Stacey star drops in to open new Barry restaurant
8:40am Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in News
GAVIN and Stacey star Melanie Walters got into character to help judge an omelette challenge at the opening of the new Brewers Fayre restaurant in Barry.
Melanie, who plays Stacey's omelette-making mother Gwen West in the Barry-based award-winning comedy show, stopped off in the town to cast her critical taste-buds over chef's egg creations - and to declare the dining place officially open.
Customers were also treated to free cup cakes and magical demonstrations from Barry entertainer Jasper Blakeley.
The restaurant adjoins the Premier Inn hotel that officially opened earlier in the week.
Melanie said: "I am loving being back in Barry.
"The new Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre is next to the road where we based ourselves, and it's very strange coming back to this spot, where there was no development at all."
Saying she didn't think there would be another outing for Gavin and Stacey, due to actor commitments, Melanie - who is director of Practical Pilates in Swansea and will appear in Rhyl's panto Sleeping Beauty this year - added: "We didn't realise Gavin and Stacey was going to take off the way it did, but it's been tremendous for Barry and Wales."
