Barry man sleeps rough in London as part of Action for Children fundraiser

A BARRY man and his colleagues have raised thousands of pounds for a charity helping young people, by sleeping rough on the streets of London.
Nick Everitt, of Oakfield Road, completed the challenge last Friday night (October 5), in a bid to raise awareness and funds for the charity Action for Children.
"I was one of ten people from my company who took part in an annual event aimed at raising awareness of the plight of young people without homes," said the Logica employee.
"The weather was atrocious with non-stop rain and wind, meaning we couldn’t get any sleep in our flooded sleeping bags. “However, we had to brave the elements for only one night - in the hope that vulnerable children do not have to all year round."
It is estimated that more than 100,000 young people are without homes every single night. Almost a third of these will attempt suicide, with many not aware of charities like Action for Children who can provide some assistance.
Dad-of-three Nick added: "Before we took to the streets I was privileged to speak to some of the young children, to hear directly the heart-wrenching stories of circumstances beyond their control that forced them to be homeless.
"We heard about the incredible difference a charity like Action for Children has been able to make to lives across the UK, including here in Wales.
"Needless to say when I returned home the following day, the hugs I received from my wife and children, and the warm and dry bed, were that extra bit special."
Nick, who ran the Cardiff Half Marathon for Cancer Research two years ago, has personally raised just over £500 for Action for Children, contributing to just under £20,000 raised so far by colleagues across his organisation.
Nine teams took part in the 'Byte Night' fundraiser in London, Edinburgh and the Thames Valley.
