BLUES AND ROOTS: Exceptionally gifted slide player Michael Messer. BLUES AND ROOTS: Exceptionally gifted slide player Michael Messer.

MICHAEL Messer and Ed Genis, with support from Pete Mathison, will be appearing at Barry's West End Club, on Friday, October 12.

With 29 years of experience playing together Michael and Ed are widely regarded as the best acoustic blues and roots act in the UK.

Michael is an exceptionally gifted slide player, being likened to Ry Cooder by some journalists, a plaudit which he enhanced when he set up a masterclass with Indian Debashish Bhattahcharaya who is considered the number one slide guitarist in the world.

Michael also accompanied Louisiana Red, one of the last great American bluesmen up until his death in 2010, on three tours of the UK, and with his band re-recorded cult Venice Beach roots and reggae artist Ted Hawkins' 'Nowhere to Run'.

Ally all that with his mastery of the 12 string, lap slide and lap steel alongside Ed Genis who is a great guitarist in his own right, and you begin to see what a treat we are in for!

Covering blues, country and possibly some world music, Michael has released eight CDs and is one of only three atists to have sleeve notes written by the late great Johnny Cash, the others being Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson.

On their last visit to Wales the duo received a five minute standing ovation at The Mumbles Mostly Jazz and Blues Festival.

Tickets at £10 are on sale from the bar or by calling Mike on 07882 227537.
