BARRY pupils acted as dignitaries for the morning, after a supermarket enlisted their services to declare the doors to its new store officially open.

Staff at Sainsbury's, on Park Crescent, welcomed youngsters from Barry Comprehensive and Romilly Primary schools to its launch on Friday (September 21).

The youngsters also had the chance to hold a Paralympic relay torch at the event.

As a thank you from Sainsbury's, Barry Comprehensive will be rewarded with an investment in school gardening gear; while Romilly's sports hall will be redecorated.

Store manager Lucy Cameron said 27 staff will be working at the new 'Local' store.

"We hope that we can become part of the community," she added.
