Red Cross volunteer recruitment drive in Barry

THE Red Cross is urging volunteers in Barry to sign up for a new service aimed at supporting vulnerable and isolated people.

Gofal Y Ddolen, funded by the Welsh Government and implemented by the Red Cross which operates throughout Cardiff and the Vale, aims to help vulnerable people aged 50 and over combat loneliness and isolation by linking them up with other services and social groups in their local communities.

A recruitment drive will be held at Hen Goleg resource centre, College Fields Close, Barry, from 10am to 5.30pm next Thursday, September 27. Volunteers must be over 18 and able to commit to regular visits.

Tasks range from simply offering company with a cup of tea and a friendly chat, to more practical help such as doing the weekly shopping. No experience is necessary as full training will be given.

For details, call Rob Purnell on 07921 404327, email CardiffCSS@redcross.org.uk or attend the recruitment event next Thursday.
