Barry boxing champ Lee Selby gets set for title defence - and wins backing of Barry businesses

BARRY boxer Lee Selby is set to defend his British and Commonwealth Featherweight titles against Martin Lindsay this weekend - and the 24-year-old is confident he will win.
If he is successful in the bout, which takes place at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Saturday, September 22, he will be in a position to challenge for the European belt for his weight division.
"It’s a good learning fight as he is highly ranked and it will move me up in the rankings," said Lee.
"My training has been easing down as it’s getting so close to the fight."
Lee, who is now ranked Number 1 in Europe and 24 in the world in the WBC rankings, added: "Within 18 months I want to challenge for the world title."
And the Barry boxer has recently won the support of two Barry businesses.
Nina Estate Agents has sponsored Lee’s boxing shorts, t-shirts and training shirts, which will all carry the company’s logo. Nina Chivers, owner of the estate agents on Broad Street, will also be travelling to Belfast to watch the fight.
"It’s the first time we have ever sponsored anyone, but we think he has great potential for the future and is an up and coming star," she said.
"As he is a local sports personality we wanted to sponsor him and show our support."
Meanwhile LDS Motor Factors has stepped in to offer their backing, by sponsoring signature cards for the 24-year-old.
Peter White, a director of Cardiff Road-based LDS Motor Factors, said: "We have sponsored cards that he can sign for fans, and we have also given him a donation towards his kit."
Lee said: "It's great to have support from local businesses."
