EARLY IMPS: Photographs of the very first Cadoxton Imps team in 1972 (with founder Graham Harris and current president Len Jones as managers) and then again a few years later. Dig the Seventies hairdos!
AS PART of a series of special anniversary events, Cadoxton Imps Association Football Club will host a black tie ball almost 40 years to the day a team of 10 year olds played the club's first competitive match.
Having initially started under the name of Buttrills Rovers, the current club was founded by Graham Harris in 1972 with a team of 10 year olds in the old Barry and District League. Cadoxton Conservative Club provided the finance for the first shirts and the boys were 'little devils,' hence the club's name.
The 40th anniversary ball will be held at the Masonic Hall, Broad Street, Barry, on Saturday, October 6, with a three course dinner, and wine on the table, being followed by live entertainment from soul band "Dansette" and a disco. There will also be a prize raffle and an auction.
Tickets are £20 per person and are available from the club contacts below or from any Imps manager or committee member. Doors will be open at 7.30pm, with dinner served from 8pm.
The club are updating their Cadoxton Imps History Book (1972/73 to 2007/08) as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations so, if anyone has any photographs not in the current edition of the book, then please contact the club to incorporate them in the new and updated edition.
However, it is not just all about that first team. It is about every team, every player, every manager and every committee member over the last 40 years.
All past, present (and future!) Cadoxton Imps' players, managers, committee members or anyone else with any connection to the club, however remote and from whatever era, are most welcome to come along to the ball to see some old faces and to meet some new ones.
