Facelift for green space at Barry's Coronation Street

AN open space near the centre of Barry is set for a major facelift.

Thanks to Welsh Government funding of £31,400, the Coronation Street green space will have improved seating and more bio-diverse planting.

With other nearby green spaces in the Castleland ward having play equipment for children and younger people, the local authority-led project is aimed at making the area more attractive for older residents.

Under the Tranquil, Greener and Cleaner Places programme, the Welsh Government has earmarked nearly £500,000 to support 14 projects across Wales, and Environment Minister John Griffiths said: "The projects will deliver environmental improvements for everyone to enjoy.

"The programme focuses on improving air quality, environmental noise and tranquil green spaces. The projects will provide an immediate benefit to poorer communities."
