Weekend of music and fun for all the family at Cadoxton's Victoria Park

CADOXTON'S Victoria Park hosts two great events this weekend - a 'Back to School' bash on Saturday, September 9, and a Bandstand Marathon on the Sunday.

With all proceeds in aid of Ty Hafan, Saturday's fun starts at 1pm with fantastic DJ Stirling and, during dancing, there will be a fancy dress competition for children 10 and under.

Every child in fancy dress gets a ticket for a draw to win a free bouncy castle for their next birthday; prize kindly donated by Peter (Triassic Towers). There will also be craft stalls and games.

Then, at 3.30pm, it's the return of one of Barry's favourite bands, 'Padded Cell,' who reformed last month and are just waiting to get back to the bandstand and play some great rock and blues.

Sunday's Bandstand Marathon features a jam-packed musical programme to help mark the end of the London 2012 Festival and, on the final day of the Paralympic Games, an amazing summer of sport and culture.

The free event will entertain audiences from 1-5pm offering a one-off opportunity to be part of the nationwide finale celebrations for London 2012.

The event opens with the Barry Brass Band who will play the official Bandstand theme, 'Viva La Vida,' by Coldplay. Over 200 other bands in bandstands across the country will also be playing this song at the same time to coincide with the finale of the Paralympic Games.

Llantwit Major-based folk group 'Seafall,' who have just released their first CD, change the mood, and then it's the return of the Vale Voices Choir, together with their dynamic conductor, Dot Connell.

Finishing the event in a suitably over the top way will be 'Elvis' (aka Matt), one of the best tribute acts in town.

Jon Greatrex, Victoria Park manager, said: "It's been a superb Olympic and Paralympic summer so let's all join in the Bandstand Marathon 2012 Festival and keep the good times flowing."

Admission to both events is free but donations to Ty Hafan will be welcome.
