THE Barry Waterfront Tall Ship Festival (September 1 and 2) once again attracted thousands to the town, with the annual event getting bigger by the year.

Live music was the main attraction for many visitors, with the Waterfront rocking to the sounds of established bands and a collection of talented young musicians, many of whom performed on both the main stage and in an acoustic tent.

Local legends The Relics were the popular headliners on Saturday evening, with Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band topping the bill for a Sunday full of smooth seaside grooves, while the crowds also enjoyed up-and-coming acts such as Them Deadbeats, Still Waiting and The Town.

Also appearing were local teenagers Back to November, whose popularity has rocketed after gigs across the region, including a number in support of charities such as Karen's Cause.

Away from the music at the Vale Council-organised event, the tall ship Stavros S Niarchos was a big draw for families, who also learned about sea-faring ways from the salty seadogs inhabiting the pirate village.

The thousands of visitors to the free festival also marveled at a range of vintage cars and steam engines, and took rides on vintage busses, steam trains and a miniature railway.
