Youngsters make a splash at new Barry park facility

BARRY youngsters have given their seal of approval to a unique-to-the-Vale ‘splash pad’ facility launched in Gibbonsdown recently.

Children took advantage of good weather and waded into the water-based attraction, ahead of the official opening.

The Barry Regeneration Area Board supplied £200,000 for the Pencoedtre Park scheme, which also includes play area and lighting improvements.

The project was developed in consultation with the Gibbonsdown Residents Board.

Bad weather in June had initially delayed construction.

Community development officer for Gibbonsdown Childrens Centre, Julia John said: "I think it's absolutely wonderful.

"The children couldn’t wait to get down here.

"It's safer than a paddling pool for little children. Hopefully we'll have an Indian Summer!"

Gibbonsdown Residents Board association chairwoman, Molly Conway said the facility was a first for both Gibbonsdown and the Vale, and a ‘fantastic achievement’ for the association and Malcolm Drysdale.
