New conductor for Barry Choral Society
4:50pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in News
BARRY Choral Society's new conductor is Victoria Pilley.
In early 2012 Victoria relocated to Cardiff from Melbourne, Australia to undertake postgraduate studies in Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Her love of music began at the age of seven when she started playing the piano. Since then, she has studied performance at university level under Glenn Riddle and Kenji Fujimura and worked extensively as a repetiteur, teacher and musician.
Her interest in choral music was ignited through her own participation as a chorister and accompanist with many different choirs.
As a conductor Vicky has developed her skills over a number of years, holding positions with Blackburn High School, Melbourne University and the National Children's Choir of Australia. In addition to her work as Musical Director of Barry Choral Society, she currently holds the position of co-director of Gabalfa Community Choir.
With a double degree in Music and Commerce, Vicky has also established a career in Arts Management, having worked for some of Australia's most prominent Arts Organisations including Orchestra Victoria, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Musica Viva Australia, combining management skills with a strong passion for music education.
Beryl Weale, Chair of Barry Choral Society, said: "Why not come along and meet Victoria at one of our rehearsals? We return after our summer break on Wednesday evening, September 5 at Crossway Methodist Church from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
"A great night to pop along as there will be coffee and biscuits and a warm and friendly welcome!"
