Maintenance shutdown preparation work to start at Barry's Dow Corning site tomorrow
12:10pm Sunday 2nd September 2012 in News
WORK preparing Barry's Dow Corning for a maintenance shutdown is scheduled to begin on Monday (September 3).
The 160 acre site’s three-yearly maintenance shutdown will see all processes stopped and miles of piping and dozens of distillation columns emptied and cleaned, to allow them to be thoroughly inspected.
The shutdown allows maintenance tasks to be undertaken free of chemicals, and modifications improving safety and efficiency to be fitted.
The work is part of the company’s on-going approach to safety which has resulted in the Barry site winning four gold and one silver Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Safety and Health Awards in recent years.
The majority of the cleaning and maintenance work will be done in the week beginning September 10.
The plant is expected to be back online and fully operational towards the end of September.
