GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY: Rhondda Lifeguards based at the Knap, Barry, GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY: Rhondda Lifeguards based at the Knap, Barry,

THE Rhondda Lifeguards based at the Knap, Barry, celebrate their golden anniversary this Saturday, August 11. The club was formed by Sgt Bill Dummer of Slade Road, Barry, whilst he was stationed at Ferndale in the Rhondda - and during their 50-year existence they have saved 106 lives.

With the Welsh Lifeguard Championships taking place this weekend, the club will be hosting a barbecue on Friday evening at their clubhouse and all past members are invited to attend and bring along old photographs and discuss their time and memories with the club.

The club will, with the support of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, celebrate their history by producing a book and DVD and these will be launched at their gala anniversary dinner on September 21 at the Rhondda Heritage Park.
