BARRY boxer Andrew Selby is through to the Olympic quarter-final after winning his first fight tonight (Friday, August 3).

The Welsh fighter faced Khazakstan's Ilyas Suelimenov in the second round of the Flyweight division (52kg category), and won 19-15 – despite picking up a two-point penalty in the final round.

Selby, 23, was given a bye in the first round after being seeded second in the competition, behind the Russian world champion Misha Aloyan.

The Barry boxer has recently been ranked number one in the world in his weight division by the Amateur International Boxing Association.

The quarter finals are on Tuesday evening (August 7) starting at 8.30pm.
