Barry RAFA branch to host fantastic night of fundraising for Wings Appeal
4:40pm Tuesday 7th August 2012 in News By Chris Seal
BARRY residents have been encouraged to attend a 'fabulous fundraising night of entertainment' in aid of the RAFA Wings Appeal.
Barry's RAFA Branch is holding a fundraising concert at the Dolphin Bar on Barry Island on Friday, September 7.
The event, which starts at 7.30pm, will feature a cabaret performance from award-winning entertainer Mandy Starr, as well as the Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir.
Howard Provis, Secretary of the Barry RAFA Branch, said: "It's our second year after the very successful charity concert last year.
"We were encouraged to make it an annual event after raising more than £1,300 last year."
"Mandy Starr is absolutely fabulous," he added.
"She sings and chats, and captivates the audience. I've seen her four times now!"
All the money raised will go towards the RAFA Wings Appeal, which cares for serving and ex-service men from the RAF. The Barry RAFA branch also deals with about 40 welfare cases a year in the Vale.
"All the money raised will go to the RAFA Wings Appeal, but we get a proportion of that to spend in our area," said Howard.
"It assists us to carry out work in Barry and the Vale."
The concert is on Friday, September 7, at the Dolphin Bar on Barry Island.

BARRY RAFA branch is appealing for a bugle player and small brass band to play at this year's Battle of Britain service outside the Memorial Hall on Sunday, September 9, at approximately noon.
Howard Provis, Secretary of the Barry branch of RAFA, said: "One hymn and the Last Post is all that's required and the service lasts about 20 minutes.
"We have approached several brass bands but found them all booked for September, so we're in need of a bugler and small brass band or small group of musicians."
