Eisteddfod travel arrangements put in place by Vale Council
12:20pm Sunday 29th July 2012 in News
A TRAFFIC management scheme to allow easy access to and from the Eisteddfod has been put in place by the Vale Council, working in cooperation with the Eisteddfod organisers and South Wales
Police.
A temporary one-way system will be in place during the event, which is being held in Llandow from August 4-11, to manage traffic near the site and to allow visitors to walk safely between the Maes
and the adjacent car parks and caravan park.
Traffic from the west will travel to the Eisteddfod along the B4265 travelling through Ewenny, St Brides and Wick while traffic from the east and north east will be routed from J33 of the M4 along
Port Road and the B4265 to Llantwit Major.
A temporary 30 mph speed limit will be in operation along the B4270, between the Llantwit Major bypass and Nash Corner.
In the weeks leading up to the Eisteddfod, signs will be installed along key routes to direct traffic to and from the site and also to advise drivers of possible delays during Eisteddfod
week.
For those wishing to travel to the Eisteddfod using public transport, shuttle buses will be provided, running between Llantwit Major railway station and the Maes and also between Cowbridge (High
Street) and the Maes during Eisteddfod week.
Local bus and rail services will continue to run from Barry to Llantwit Major, where visitors can catch the shuttle bus service to the Eisteddfod.
Director of Development Services Rob Thomas said: "Colleagues have been working with the National Eisteddfod in drawing up the scheme, and this has been informed by their experience of traffic
management arrangements that have been put in place during previous events around Wales.
"In addition, the fact that shuttle buses will link all rail services arriving at and departing Llantwit Major rail station means that using public transport to get to and from the Eisteddfod is a
viable and convenient alternative to using the car, particularly as the bus service will take visitors direct to the main entrance of the Eisteddfod."
Full details of the timings of the shuttle bus route and fares can be found on the council's website at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/enjoying/eisteddfod_2012.aspx
