FUN RUN FUNDS: Players from Barry Athletic Football Club U11s raised £742 with a sponsored fun run at their Barry Island ground.
BARRY Athletic Football Club held a sponsored fun run at their home ground to raise much-needed funds for the U11s team.
On a beautiful Sunday morning, and with the emphasis definitely on effort as opposed to fun, the team and their three coaches (under protest) attempted to complete at least three laps of the perimeter.
The boys set off in good spirits, buoyed by the fact that they were going to make mincemeat of their coaches! All the youngsters exceeded expectations by completing at least four laps, with some going on to complete six and even seven - putting the coaches, who only completed three laps each, to shame!
The perimeter of the ground is approximately 420m so, between them, the team managed to cover a total distance of 20 miles! One player even completed the run while nursing a broken collar bone.
In total, the players raised a magnificent £742, with a special mention to three players in particular who raised more than £100 each.
The management team said: "We would like to praise the magnificent efforts of the players and would like to thank everyone - friends, family, work colleagues etc - who sponsored the boys.
"In particular, thanks to the ex-Barry Athletic FC senior players and management; whose contribution was very much appreciated.
"We would also once again like to thank Tony Mulherne, of (Tema) Penarth Industrial Services, for his continued support."
